CDL JOB FAIR HOPES TO CAPTURE OUT OF STATE DRIVERS
Pick up a copy of the local paper and scan the classified advertisements. Odds are you’ll see plenty of ads seeking “Qualified Commercial Drivers.”
“The increased economic activity in the area has many companies scrambling to find qualified drivers,” says Shawn Wenko Workforce Development Coordinator for the City of Williston. “The competition is intense. It is not uncommon to see CDL job listings offering $1,000 sign on bonuses, monthly safety incentives, 100% health & retirement benefits, plenty of overtime, and excellent wages.”
To address the demand, more than 15 companies will be looking to fill over 200 jobs March 4th and 5th at the CDL Job Fair hosted by Job Service North Dakota and Williston Economic Development.
Job Service North Dakota was instrumental in initiating this event. Tanya Vachal, Office Manager of Job Service in Williston, states, “We continue to see a steady flow of walk-in traffic and phone calls from out-of-area job seekers. This job fair is an opportunity to connect qualified drivers with excellent companies.” Vachal says, “Simply put - the companies needs drivers and the drivers need jobs. It only makes sense to get them in the same room together.”
Exclusively for job seekers who possess a Class A, B or C Commercial Driver’s License or a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License permit, Vachal and Wenko feel the attendance is going to be strong. “We have marketed in neighboring states that are experiencing high layoffs of transportation drivers. There have been a lot of calls to our offices seeking more information on this job fair.”
In addition to employers, Williston Economic Development will be on hand to answer housing and relocation questions, TrainND will provide information about its CDL training program, and the Department of Motor Vehicles will assist in any licensing questions job seekers may have.
The two day event will be held Thursday March 4th from 11am-6pm and Friday March 5th from 9am-2pm at the Airport International Inn in Williston. Prospective job seekers must bring their CDL License or Permit and are encouraged to bring their I-9 Identification, complete work history, and a current resume.
