Job Description
The Workforce Training Division is offering a Commercial Drivers License Training Program. This is a two-week, 120 hour course. The training includes: classroom instruction and behind the wheel driving.
This program offers the best opportunity to learn by presenting information in hands-on situations from behind the wheel and from experienced instructors in the classroom. The course is comprehensive and includes all materials, training aids and preparation to take the state regulated CDL test.
Upon successful course completion, the driver will have over 60 hours of behind-the-wheel driving. Students will receive a Certificate of Completion.
The Commercial Drivers License Program is offered once per month at Williston State College.
Training Fee: $3900.00
Training Outline:
Classroom (30 hours):
General knowledge of state and federal requirements to drive a commercial vehicle
Hazardous materials knowledge
Log books, federal regulations and Hour of Service
Rules of the road and how they apply
Handling cargo and cargo documentation
Accident reporting and documentation
Roadside emergencies
Driver Impairment:
Load securing
Map reading'
Trip planning
Life as a driver
Defensive driver training

Pre-trip inspections
Air brakes
Basic vehicle maintenance
Beginning backing
Straight line

Maneuvering tractor and trailer in limited areas

Advanced backing with combination tractor-trailer
Use of spotters in backing
Coupling and uncoupling
Vehicle securing
Behind the Wheel (60 hours):
Rural roadways driven in light traffic with tractor only
Light industrial area with light traffic
Interstate driving
Off road driving
